Florian Vollmer

Florian Vollmer is an industrial designer, teacher, and principal at Info Retail—a strategy and design agency—where he helps international companies transform customer experiences. He specializes in creating brand experiences in the context of service design—the alignment and design of all brand touchpoints in a customer’s journey to create more useful, profitable, efficient and effective experiences.

He was born in Essen, Germany (1976). At the age of 16, Vollmer saw someone struggling to operate a simple electronic device. At that moment, human-centered design became his mission. He said, “A small design decision somewhere in the product development of that device negatively influenced millions of lives. So I decided to do something about it. I entered the profession of design.”

In a sense, Vollmer designed his very own design curriculum. He studied industrial, product and multi-disciplinary design at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design at the University of Central England, Kunsthochschule Berlin Weissensee, and Cologne International School of Design, and earned a Master of Industrial Design degree at Georgia Institute of Technology.

In 2003 he joined Info Retail. As senior vice president and a principal at the firm, Vollmer conducts rapid concept generation in the field and leads multi-disciplinary teams of designers. He and his teams have designed experience-changing environments and media for a diverse clientele such as Tempur-Pedic, The Home Depot, The Coca-Cola Company, Kingsdown/SleepToLive, and other leading brands—including the design of a flagship retail environment on New York’s Fifth Avenue.

Vollmer has spoken to international audiences on the alignment of business, strategy and experience design, including at KHB Berlin Weissensee, World Affairs Council of Atlanta Young Leaders, World Market Center Las Vegas, New York Fashion Institute of Technology, and multiple week-long workshops at the Connect Conference in Basel, Switzerland. As an adjunct professor and guest lecturer at Georgia Tech, he continues to educate graduate and undergraduate students in core industrial design practices, creative exploration, and corporate identity.

He is a member of the Design Management Institute, Service Design Network, and the German-American Chamber of Commerce.
